Miguel and team have just released Mono 1.0. I’ve been playing around with Mono on and off for a year or two now, and it’s really quite an exciting area. The whole .Net framework is pretty cool, and it’s great that there’s an open source alternative, so go and check it out.
In other dev news, Microsoft released the first public beta version of Whidbey, aka Visual Studio 2005. There are a lot of windows programmers excited about Whidbey, so it’s probably worth a gander if you’re into that sort of thing.
In other OTHER news, Microsoft also announced and released an Express version of their C++, C#, ASP.Net and J++ IDEs. For free.
It looks like Microsoft is really trying to target the hobbyist programmer market, which up until now has belonged to Apple and linux. Things Just Got Interesting.

Whew. I just got back from the gym and I’m exhausted. It’s the first time I’ve been in a couple of months and I think it went well. I’ve decided to start training for the Keep Austin Weird 5k, and since sitting around writing code isn’t exactly giving me the burn I would like, I’m gonna start hitting the gym during lunch and going for a run at night.
Workout for today: Chest
- Hammer machine incline press: (10 x 50), (10 x 70), (10 x 70), (10 x 70)
- Hammer machine bench press : (10 x 70), (10 x 70), (8 x 70)
- Hammer machine wide grip bench : (10 x 70), (10 x 70), (10 x 70)
- Deltoid fly machine (reversed) : (10 x 60), (10 x 60), (10 x 60)
* Gotta start learning to use a spellchecker

I think I’ve become a froo-froo tea drinker.
About a month ago, we found a pair of rusted-through needle nose pliers in the water reservoir of our coffee maker at work. After that discovery, I found that I couldn’t touch coffee. Just the smell of it conjured rusty images that made me ill.
So I turned to tea for my hot caffienated beverage fix. And the tea was good.
But after a couple of weeks, I was pining for my old love, so I started back up on the sauce. I started by drinking a cup or two at home, which worked out well. We have a Moka Espresso coffee maker which makes a delicious cup of coffee, so that stuff went down easy.
So today, I decided to go get a cup of coffee here at work. I walked over to the kitchen, and just as I reached for the coffee pot something on the microwave caught my eye. Actually, it caught the corner of my eye. I put the coffee pot down to get a closer look, and it was a tea bag. An Earl Grey tea bag to be more precise. I don’t know who put it there, or how long it had been there. But the next thing I knew, my cup was filled with steaming water and there was a little brown bag of deliciousness floating on the top.
I’m hooked on tea. Please don’t tell anyone.

Big thanks to Anthony who, despite his treacherous Ukrainian heritage, found it fitting to bestow a highly coveted Gmail account upon me. I’ve only three words to describe the gmail experience:
O.
M.
G.
It’s completely unreal. I swear those google guys can do nothing poorly.

Now that I’m using Word Press, I find myself jotting things down and then saving them as a draft rather than simply publishing them. I do this in an attempt to force myself to re-read and edit my posts, thus keeping me from publishing otherwise embarrassing peices of terrible writing.
Of course, all it’s really done is create a backlog of drafts that I’ll never get around to posting

Well, not exactly. But there’s a preview disc out, that’s got a couple of tracks and 2 cars. It’s not officially being distributed in the US, but GamePro.com has a way to get it via the Toyota website.
I can’t wait for mine.
