Sock subscription

Blacksocks.com is a sock delivery service. Yeah, that’s right. You sign up, and every month or so they send you a new pair of socks. So now, no matter what, you can feel confident that you’ve got the sock situation handled.

This is very close to my sock-dispenser idea.

I’ve always felt that one of the greatest feelings in the entire world is the feeling of pulling on a brand new pair of socks. They can be any kind of socks, really. As long as they’re brand new and fresh out of the package. Man, that’s good feeling.

So, when I become independantly wealthy, I’m going to have a sock dispenser installed in my house.

Every morning I’ll walk up to my sock dispenser (which looks very much like a public restroom paper towel dispenser), pull out 2 brand new socks and pull them on. At the end of the day, I’ll pull off the new socks and throw them in the “Send These Socks To Goodwill” basket. The next day, 2 more new socks.

I can’t wait.

M. Night Shyamalan

Did anyone watch that creepy show on the SciFi channel last night about M. Night Shyamalan? It’s the “true” story of his life and work, and how all his movies are actually auto-biographical and how he’s “connected to the other side”.

It’s kinda silly to think about it now, but last night with all the lights out, it was kinda spooky :).

But you’ve got to admit: that guy has a way with making movies. He’s great at making you see only what he wants you to see, but at the same time giving you all the pieces necessary to complete the puzzle.

On Education

My schooling continues to move at a snail’s pace. I’m currently enrolled in a Probability class through U.T.’s University Extension program, but it’s slow going. And with a cursory glance at next semester’s offerings, it seems like there will be, again, only one class that applies to a Computer Science degree. And it’s another math class.

I found out last week that St. Edward’s University offers a full-time after hours Computer Science degree through their New College.

Pros:

  • Get a degree in a reasonable amount of time with minimal sacrifice.
  • Great Biblical studies dept., which keeps certain doors open for the future.

Cons:

  • Not UT, so it’s hard to say which classes will transfer. Any that don’t are a loss.
  • Not as good of a Comp. Sci. dept.

Decisions, decisions.

Does anyone have a cheap 802.11b PCMCIA card up for sale?

I’ve got an old IBM Thinkpad I’m bringing online to do some dev work on and a wireless connection would be so choice.

Ah, the ever-present software documentation problem. It seems to follow me everywhere I go.

There’s invariably never enough (usually there isn’t any), and there’s never any time to write it. I’ve never solved this problem or seen it solved in the real world, so I’m at a loss here. If, by some strange alignment of probabilities, someone reads this and has a solution to missing/incomplete documentation, please PLEASE let me know.

I don’t even really want to know how you did it (although that would be lovely). I just want to know that it’s not completely hopeless.
