Phidgets are physical widgets, which means that they’re little robotic building blocks that are designed to interact with your PC. They range from servos and lights to LCDs and accelerometers, and they’re all meant to be programatically accessed via USB.
So no more hard-coding actions and blowing them into a ROM, or having to write some strange set of opcodes to get your robots to do what you want. You can just write code in C++ or Java or Visual Basic. There’s no linux support yet, but they claim it’s on the way.
This just blows my mind. I can’t wait until Aiden’s old enough to play with this kind of stuff.

My boy Aiden is wicked smart. We found out yesterday that he’s the only one in his class that can spell the word ‘red’ properly. Everyone else spells it ‘d-e-r’, which I’m told is wrong.
Just a proud father gushing over his son. Nothing else to see here: move along.

Somehow, by changing the theme of mando.org to Kubrick I’ve busted comments. Hopefully this’ll be an easy fix.
Update: All fixed. It turns out that the installation instructions are a *bit* misleading concerning the permalink structure. If you’re installing Kubrick, make sure that you update your permalink structure even if you think that you haven’t changed the default.

It looks like I got a couple more invites. If you’ve posted a comment before asking for one and I haven’t gotten back to you, please leave me a reminder in the comments area or drop me a note at mando.escamilla@gmail.com.

I found out last night that I got an A in my Probability class, which is quite surprising as I couldn’t even finish our take home final.
That test was one of the tougher ones in my scholastic career, and I was sure that I totally bombed it. I guess everyone else did just as poorly as I did
.
Of course, thanks to UT’s lackluster after-hours program, I can’t take another class until next semester (if I’m lucky), which means that I should finish up my degree sometime around (back of the envelope calculations…) 2017. Yikes.
I’ve got to do something about that.
